The new kid on the block: Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)

Whenever we think of a classic skincare ingredient; Acids, Retinol, Peptides and Anti-oxidants come to mind. Maybe a few of the newbies like Snail Secretion Filtrate and Niacinimide, but few of us have heard of Epidermal Growth Factors or EGF and its rejuvenating powers. Now, what is EGF, exactly?

Research behind EGF

Originally used medically to speed up wound recovery—Epidermal Growth Factors, as the name suggests, are proteins that stimulates cell growth, these proteins act as “communicators” between cells, and signal them to grow, heal, replicate and rejuvenate. EGF naturally occurs in our body but as we age, the production of growth factors decrease alongside collagen and elastin; all of which are essential building blocks that keep our skin youthful.

That’s where EGF products come to play. Topical EGF acts as a replacement and makes up for the one’s we’ve lost – this restores the normal signal back to our skin, so they can produce newer cells, collagen and elastin. Epidermal factors also helps with inflammation while helping cells slough off at a healthy pace for clearer pores

Who can benefit from EGF?

EGF works wonders for mature skin. It has the powerful ability to reverse signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, and sagging skin. Since EGF was originally used for healing, it’s amazing for deep acne marks, spots and even active pimples as it soothes inflammation. It also has the ability to prevent melanin production, so EGF is wonderful for improving one’s overall complexion. You don’t have to wait until you’re older to use this miracle product, it works great for everyone.

What’s our go-to EGF product? we love CV Skin’s EGF Essence. There aren’t a lot of EGF products in the market yet but CV Skin’s EGF Essence was carefully formulated with potent Epidermal Growth Factors, incorporated with natural botanical extracts and anti-oxidants. Its perfect for use during night time where cell turnover is at its peak, after cleansing and washing your face, followed by your favorite moisturizer (we recommend the CV Skin Eternal Cream, another anti-aging superhero).
